Private Group Programs

Girls sitting around a campfireLooking for something different to do with your youth group, Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts? Take advantage of one of our fun and engaging programs developed specifically to cater to different interests and grade levels.

Program guidelines

To schedule a program, please call 913.477.7100 or email the program supervisor listed.

  • Please schedule your program at least one month in advance - we cannot guarantee availability.

  • Before participating, each child must have a program registration waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian.

  • You must pay program fees in advance, in person at the Lenexa Rec Center, 17201 W. 87th St. Pkwy. (8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday).

  • We require at least one adult for every eight children in our group programs.

  • Siblings who are outside of the program’s age range cannot participate or be present during the program.

Available programs

Aquatics

Fundamentals of Swimming - Introduce your group to swimming skills based on their age and ability.

Water Safety and Lifeguarding - Learn the job duties of a lifeguard and what you need to know to keep the pool safe.

  • Available: Summer time only

  • Age: 9 to 15

  • Cost: $10 per program per person

  • Minimum: 5 / Maximum: 18

  • Time frame: 1 hour

  • Location: One of our outdoor pools

Campfire Stories and S’mores

Bring your group to enjoy the outdoors with a special treat of s’mores and storytelling around a campfire.

  • Available: April, May, September and October

  • Age: All ages

  • Cost: $5 per person

  • Minimum: 50 / Maximum: 80

  • Time frame: 2 hours

  • Location: Black Hoof Park

Forestry Badge

Trees are an important part of our community - explore tree differences, our connection to trees and much more.

  • Available: April, May, August, September and October

  • Age: Grades 3 through 6

  • Cost: $5 per person

  • Minimum: 8 / Maximum: 14

  • Time frame: 1.5 hours

  • Location: Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park

Geocaching

Learn how to use a GPS and find geocaches. Bring water and a small toy to trade. The number of geocaches you find depends on the length of your program.

  • Available: All year, winter preferred

  • Age: Grades 2 through 8

  • Cost: $4 to $6 per person, depending on length of program

  • Minimum: 8 / Maximum: 14

  • Time frame: 1 to 2 hours

  • Location: Black Hoof Park

Nature Hikes

Take a walk on your favorite trail or explore a new park. We will use age-appropriate games and stories to keep your group engaged.

  • Available: All year

  • Age: All ages

  • Cost: $4, 5 or $6 per person, depending on length of program

  • Minimum: 8 / Maximum: 20

  • Time frame: 1, 1.5 or 2 hours

  • Location: Black Hoof Park or Craig Crossing park

Water Drop Class

Learn more about why Lake Lenexa exists. Explore the wetlands and learn more about the microorganisms that make life at the lake possible.

  • Available: April, May, August, September, October

  • Age: Grades 3 through 8

  • Cost: $5 per person

  • Minimum: 8 / Maximum: 14

  • Time frame: 1.5 hours

We do not have a set list of volunteer projects for groups, but we encourage you to make a change in the community by finding a need and helping us solve it.
