E-bicycles
- Subject to the same rules and regulations as a traditional bicycle.
- Can be operated on streets, sidewalks, public park property, recreational trails and paths.
- Must be equipped with lights when operated between dusk and dawn.
- Electric motor:
- Can’t exceed power output of 750 watts.
- Can only provide assistance when the rider is pedaling.
- Can’t be capable of propelling the bicycle faster than 20 mph.
- Shall not be operated recklessly.
- Can’t park on public property where it blocks pedestrian travel, presents a traffic hazard or interferes with building access.
- Abandoned or illegally parked e-bicycle can be impounded by the City of Lenexa.
E-scooters
- Subject to the same rules and regulations as a traditional bicycle.
- Can only operate on streets with a speed limit of less than 25 mph, on sidewalks, and on recreational trails and paths.
- Can’t be used inside a public park.
- Must be equipped with lights when operated between dusk and dawn.
- Electric motor can’t be capable of propelling the scooter faster than 15 mph.
- Shall not be operated recklessly.
- Can’t park on public property where it blocks pedestrian travel, presents a traffic hazard or interferes with building access.
- Abandoned or illegally parked e-bikes can be impounded by the City of Lenexa.
Motorized skateboards (e.g., one-wheels, hoverboards, pocket bikes)
- Motorized skateboards with an electric motor may be operated on sidewalks and recreational trails and paths.
- Can’t be operated at a speed more than 15 mph.
- Can’t be used inside a public park.
- Can’t be operated between dusk and dawn or when visibility is less than 1,000 feet.
- Shall not be operated recklessly.
Lenexa trail use etiquette:
- Share the trail.
- Pedestrians keep right.
- Bicyclists keep right except to pass.
- Bicyclists announce your presence when approaching other trail users.
- Pass with care.
- Travel at a safe speed.
- Don't block the trail.
- Keep dogs under control – 6-foot leash maximum.
