Fishing & Boating

You can fish and use non-gas-powered boats at several of our lakes and ponds during park hours, as long as you possess the appropriate licenses.

Boating

Vehicle unloading a boat at a dock. We allow non-gas-powered boating only at Lake Lenexa within Black Hoof Park, 9053 Monticello Road. Acceptable boats include those that are class 1 (26 feet in length) or smaller.

Hours

November through February: 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.
March, April, September and October: 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
May through August: 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Rules

You must use personal flotation devices.
The entire lake is a no wake zone.
We follow all Kansas boating regulations.
You must launch all watercraft from a public boat ramp (located near the south entrance off Monticello Road).

We reserve the right to limit or cease boating operations at any time.

Kayak rental

Four single kayaks are available for rent from late spring through fall. Each includes a paddle and life jacket.

Self-serve rental lockers are located near the boat ramp. Download the free Rent.Fun app from your mobile phone’s app store in advance. A sign on the lockers will guide you through using the app to unlock and pay for a kayak.

Hours: May 1–Oct. 15 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Cost: $10 per 30 minutes

Minimum age: 18 years old

Weight limit: 300 pounds

Fishing

Families fishing We have partnered with the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT) to provide fishing opportunities through the Community Fisheries Assistance Program. Through this program, KDWPT stocks the fish and provides management practices at some Lenexa lakes and ponds.

You may fish at the following locations:

Lake Lenexa at Black Hoof Park, 9053 Monticello Road. Stocked fish include channel catfish, black crappie, bluegill, sunfish and largemouth bass.
Hidden Woods Park, 83^rd Street and Halsey Street. Stocked fish include channel catfish, bluegill and sunfish.
Rose’s Pond at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park, 87^th Street Parkway and Lackman Road. Stocked fish include channel catfish, largemouth bass, bluegill and sunfish.
Mize Lake at Cedar Station Park, south of Prairie Star Parkway and Canyon Creek Boulevard. Stocked fish include channel catfish, largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill and sunfish.

Hours

You may fish during posted park hours, 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Rules

If you are between 16 and 74 years old, you must have a state fishing license.
We enforce state creel limits.
Ice fishing is not allowed.
You are not allowed to fish in areas posted with “No Fishing” signs.
If you have appropriate wading gear, you may enter the cove areas of lakes.
