Police application Screening

Screening

After being interviewed and offered a position, each candidate must complete the following:
  • Background check: All City of Lenexa job offers are contingent upon the successful completion of our pre-employment screening process, which includes a background check, if over the age of 18. A credit report check is required of certain positions at the City that require cash handling or other financial management as noted in the job posting.

    • Any background or credit check requires you to complete a release of information. This is initiated after you have accepted a conditional job offer and is managed by a third-party vendor.

  • Drug screen: If you are offered a position with the City you will be required to complete a post-offer drug screen when scheduled. Candidates under age 18 will need to have a minor consent form completed by a parent or legal guardian. Depending on the type of position you are offered, the testing required may vary.
All Parks & Recreation positions other than lifeguards and head guards require a baseline health history pre-employment physical.

All Parks Maintenance positions require pre-employment agility/essential functions testing.

Understanding different job classifications

Parks & Recreation has different classifications for positions. See below for more details.

Seasonal Position

Team members that fill seasonal positions include roles such as Park Maintenance Workers and Pool Cashiers. These positions fill job requirements, which occur intermittently for a season, or only during certain times of the year. Hours worked during the period of employment may vary and may include periods of inactive status or a fluctuating work schedule.

Seasonal employees may work 40 hours per week,  but the total hours worked must remain under 1.500 hours per year. Seasonal positions are not covered by the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS) and do not qualify for benefits.

Variable Position

Team members fill variable positions in several different roles, including Welcome Desk, Gym Attendant, Lifeguard, Child Watch Attendant, Program Instructor, Fitness Attendant and Building Services Worker.

These positions are part time and have a max of 1,000 hours that can be worked in a calendar year.

Part-Time Position

Team members that fill part-time roles can work up to 1,500 hours in a calendar year.

These part-time positions are eligible for retirement benefits and vacation, sick, and holiday pay are adjusted for their part-time status.

Full-Time Position

Team members that fill full-time roles work 40 hours per week and work year-round.
