Buy native plants May 20, 2023, at the Lenexa Farmers Market. Local vendors will bring in homegrown plants for your garden that have already adapted to the climate and soil. This means less maintenance, fertilizer and watering for you. It also means good things for the environment as native grasses, flowers and plants preserve biodiversity, provide food and shelter for wildlife and support pollinators. 

Parsons’ Gardens and City Roots Nursery will have hundreds of plants at the event. Lenexa residents are eligible for 75% reimbursement for their purchases through the City of Lenexa’s Cost Share Program, which will also be present at the event.
Stop by, talk to professionals and plant a healthy garden this year.

The Lenexa Farmers Market is open from 8 a.m. to noon and takes place on the Lenexa civic campus.

Callery Pear Tree Buyback

If you have a Callery pear tree — also known as Bradford, Chantecleer or Cleveland Select — you can visit the Lenexa Farmers Market on May 20 during a shortened window of 8 to 11 a.m. to participate in the county-wide buyback event. 
Deep Roots, Evergy and Johnson County Parks & Recreation District want to help you replace your Callery with a free native tree.

Callery pear trees spread and can quickly overtake native plants and trees that ensure a healthy ecosystem. Their narrowly angled branches also make the trees easily susceptible to splitting or uprooting in windy or snowy conditions. 

To participate, visit DeepRoots.org. You will need to cut down your tree and upload a photo of it on your property prior to the buyback event. Once approved, you can pick up your free tree at the Market. It will be approximately 4 feet tall.
