Lenexa Parks & Recreation maintains and operates three outdoor pools in the summer and one indoor pool year-round at the Lenexa Rec Center. We also offer a variety of aquatics recreation programs, including swim lessons, Lenexa Lazers swim and dive team and fitness classes.

Pool Cashiers

Are you friendly, polite, and organized? We’re looking for engaging and honest people to handle our front desk and concessions. Pool Cashiers monitor membership and access to the pool facility and run the concessions stands. Minimum age is 14.

Lifeguard

Do you want to make a difference by keeping others safe? Our Lifeguards prevent accidents, provide first aid, enforce the pool rules, and help keep the facilities clean and orderly. We offer free training for all City of Lenexa Lifeguards. Learn more below. Minimum age is 15.

Head Lifeguards

Our Head Lifeguards lead the other Lifeguards at the pool and make sure the pool is running smoothly, from training to managing the lifeguards' performance. Communication, problem solving and customer service skills are required. This is a great résumé builder for someone who already has lifeguarding experience. Minimum age is 17.  

Pool Manager

Are you a leader and enjoy managing a team and working with people? Pool Managers oversee the operations, Head Lifeguards, Pool Cashiers and Lifeguards at a facility. Pool Managers must have excellent customer service and communication skills. Minimum age for Indoor Pool Manager is 20. 

Head Dive Coach

The Head Dive Coach will plan and organize practices and meets, develop and train assistant coaches, demonstrate techniques, analyze performance, instruct participants, attend league meetings and functions, complete necessary reports and records, and coordinate with participants and families. Minimum age is 17.

Assistant Dive Coach

Assistant Coaches support the plan and direction of the Head Dive Coach, assist with practices and meets, demonstrate techniques, analyze performance, instruct participants, attend parent meetings and functions, and coordinate with participants and families. Minimum age is 17.

Assistant Swim Coach

Assistant coaches support the plan and direction of the Head Swim Coach, assist with practices and meets, demonstrate techniques, analyze performance, instruct participants, attend parent meetings and functions, and coordinate with participants and families. Minimum age is 17.

How old do you need to be to work in Aquatics at Lenexa?

All of our positions have a minimum age requirement. 

Cashiers – age 14
Lifeguards – age 15

Outdoor Pool Manager – age 18

What are the training requirements to become a lifeguard?

All lifeguards will need to pass a prerequisite swim test before moving on to a Red Cross lifeguard class, consisting of roughly 30 hours of in-water and out-of-water training.

The City of Lenexa offers free lifeguard training classes for all applicants.

How can I teach swim lessons?

After becoming a lifeguard, those interested in teaching swim lessons can undergo an in-water and classroom-based training class before shadowing current instructors. They will then teach their own classes, but will still be required to work at least one lifeguard shift per week.

Swim instructors earn $13 per hour when teaching, but will still earn $10 per hour when lifeguarding.

What advancement opportunities are there?

Aquatics staff are able to get involved in additional committees, training opportunities, and programs built to allow staff to be promoted within. You may also complete additional training to be able to teach swim lessons and lifeguard classes.

How can I get signed up for a lifeguard class?

After you apply for the lifeguard position, a member of the Aquatics management team will contact you to set up a time to take a lifeguard class.
