A second round of curbside storm debris pickup and a weekend drop-off event have been scheduled after severe winds caused more tree damage the night of Sunday, July 30, 2023. 

Lenexa City crews were still cleaning up the hardest-hit areas from the July 14 storm when Sunday's high winds caused additional damage throughout the city. Curbside pickup will continue on a new schedule through Aug. 10, and a second weekend drop-off event is planned.

Please have patience with crews, who have hauled a historic amount of debris during excessive heat and additional storms over the last weeks. For more information, call the Lenexa Municipal Services Department at 913.477.7880.

Curbside pickup

Lenexa City crews will catch up on areas that still need their first curbside pickup from the July 14 storm and will start a second citywide curbside pickup on Wednesday, Aug. 2. From Tuesday, Aug. 1, through Friday, Aug. 4, they will continue to clean up debris in the area north of 95th Street, south of 87th Street Parkway, east of Lackman Road and west of Quivira Road. These neighborhoods were among the hardest-hit in the July 14 storm, and crews have been delayed due to extreme temperatures, ongoing storms and the sheer amount of debris. 

Crews will work in assigned areas throughout the next two weeks according to a daily schedule. They will work from west to east to allow residents in the harder-hit areas of eastern Lenexa more time to get their debris to the curb.

• Monday, Aug. 7: Areas southeast of Interstate 35
• Tuesday, Aug. 8: Areas east of Renner Boulevard, north of 95th Street and west of Lackman Road
• Wednesday, Aug. 9: Areas east of Lackman Road, north of 95th Street and west of Pflumm Road
• Thursday, Aug. 10: Areas east of Pflumm Road and north of Interstate 35

City of Lenexa residents are asked to place any storm-generated vegetative debris from this event on the public right-of-way alongside the curb. Please have your items on the curb and ready for pickup by 6:30 a.m. on your scheduled day.

• Crews will only pick up storm-damaged limbs and branches — no exceptions. Lumber, fencing materials, construction materials and yard waste such as leaves will not be picked up.
• Storm-damaged limbs and branches should be stacked in piles along the right-of-way. If possible, placing material parallel to the curb will make pickup faster and more efficient.
• Do not place limbs and branches in boxes or other types of containers. Do not use rope or twine to tie the limbs together – only stack branches in a pile parallel to the curb.
• Do not place debris near water meter valves, fire hydrants or any other above-ground utility.
• Only debris placed on the public right-of-way will be eligible for collection. City crews will not go on private property to collect debris under any circumstances.
• Any material that is not easily accessible from the curb will not be picked up. We will not go on driveways to get material. 
• Crews may be ahead of schedule at times and begin to work in the next day’s area. Please know that crews will start over picking up debris in these areas on that corresponding day. Once an area is completed, we will make a not of completion and will not go back through.

The Lenexa Municipal Services Service Center, 7700 Cottonwood St., was open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5, and Sunday, Aug. 6, for free vegetative debris drop-off.
